The highest mountain of the Cordilliera Blanca and also of Peru of course is a very popular destination of numerous hiking fans from all around the world. However it isn’t easy to approach the mountain and it will take you minimal 6 days. Climing knowledge and skills should be present. After all the 60/70 grout has to be over crosses, the dreaded Canaleta.

Next to the Inca Trail, the Santa Cruz Trek is one of the most popular hiking tours of Peru, however there is fortunately a lot less tourism hype. Our tour starts in Huaraz- the biggest city in the Santa valley- at the border of the high mountain region Cordillera Blanca. The city is the most important starting point for the trekking tours into the Cordillera Blanca. Many times it has been hit from a glacier avalanche. 7 km in northern direction from the Huaraz, the Willkahuain ruin is located, a over 1000 years old temple and army construction made of megalith-quarters. It is presumed that the construction has been build in the times of the Wari culture. During our trek we will discover breathtaking views on the ice giants of the Cordillera Blanca and will pass almost 5000m high passes where we will build up our tents next to crystal clear mountain lakes.

The 5947 meters high Alpamayo in the north of the Peruvian Cordillera Blanca is known as one of the most beautiful mountains worldwide. Due to its distant and hardly approachable location, it has is not know for a long time among the European hiking fans. The mountain resembles a symmetric trapeze made of ice and snow. The normal way is the only since 1975 accessible Ferrari-route. This route is named after its first conqueror Casimiro Ferrari, who climbed up this mountain with others in the summer of 75.
